My First Leathercraft Piece

Craftsman

I finished my younger sister’s birthday gift, my first leathercraft piece. A friend had given me an original Japanese leathercraft book, and I also read a lot of e-books and watched videos. I finally jumped into this big pit.

As a beginner, I wanted to make something simple for a good start. But after browsing Yiriyipi for a while, I mostly saw long wallets and short wallets in styles I didn’t like. Then I looked around and found a wallet from LINE ARTISANAL that was both beautiful and simple, so I drew my own pattern based on photos.

The problem was that the vegetable-tanned leather I bought was too thick. My knife wasn’t sharp enough, so cutting was hard. And my size estimation made the piece too tight after stitching. Still, it turned out decent in the end, except the wallet wouldn’t fully close and looked like it was stubbornly opening its mouth.

I have loved handmade products for a long time. Especially after attending the very first Smartisan phone launch event, the image of the artisan spirit from Lao Luo stayed in my mind deeply. Today I finally put that feeling into practice.
